In 1893, Metcalf became a member of the American Watercolor Society. The attainable excellence that Giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. After early figure painting and illustration, he became prominent as a landscape painter and was one of the Ten American Painters, who seceded from the Society of American Artists. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting. Artist: Willard Metcalf Subject: People Style: American Traditional Product Type: Gallery-Wrapped Canvas Art This ready to hang, gallery-wrapped art piece features a group of people sitting around a table. Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured a hidden, wooden frame. The result is wide acceptance of Giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors. Willard Leroy Metcalf was an American artist born in Lowell, Massachusetts. Generally associated with American Impressionism, he is also remembered for his New England landscapes and his influential years at the Cornish Art Colony.
